FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason softball (22-19, 9-9 A-10) fell to Mount St. Mary's (14-23, 9-7 MAAC) with a final score of 5–7 at the GMU Softball Complex on Wednesday, April 15. The midweek non-conference matchup marked the 51st meeting between the two teams, with the all-time series record now standing at 34-17 in favor of the Patriots.
Despite hitting two home runs and recording three stolen bases, the Patriots could not overcome the Mountaineers' offensive efforts, which included a decisive two-run seventh inning.
Mount St. Mary's took an early lead in the first inning with Avery Dinges scoring on a wild pitch. The inning ended with the Mountaineers leading 1–0.
In the second inning,
Madi Sobota tied the game for George Mason with her first home run of the season, a solo shot to left center. The score was tied 1–1 by the end of the inning.
The third inning saw Mount St. Mary's regain the lead with two runs, including one unearned, bringing their total to three. The Green & Gold responded as
Tess Altevers Harris scored on a throwing error that sent the ball out of bounds, allowing her to advance an extra base and cut the deficit to 3–2 in favor of the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers extended their lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Tyra Christian to make the score 4–2.
George Mason was unable to score in the fifth inning, while the visitors added another run, taking advantage of a throwing error, to bring the score to 5–2.

Logan Pickford, who then stole home.
Tess Altevers Harris homered to center field for her seventh of the season, tying the game at 5–5.
In the seventh inning, Mount St. Mary's scored twice more, with runs from Gina Del Giorno and Janie Lofland, to secure a 7–5 lead. George Mason was unable to generate further runs in the bottom half, concluding the game with a final score of 7–5 in favor of the Mountaineers.
Bri Lencz started the game for George Mason, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on two hits, while striking out two batters and issuing two walks.
Haleigh Dellow came in as relief, pitching 1.2 innings, giving up one earned run on a solo home run, with three walks and one strikeout.
