FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason men's tennis earned a dominant 4-0 win against Texas Rio Grande Valley in a Monday morning match-up at Mason Tennis Complex.
The Patriots defeated the Vaqueros in a dominant 4-0 win. Beginning with doubles play, the Patriots first earned a victory at the No. 2 doubles with
Niza Simunyola and
Edgar Vilain, defeating UTRGV's Loic Young and Will Roberts, 6-1. The Patriots clinched the doubles point with
Monil Lotlikar and
Ekansh Kumar's hard-fought 6-4 win at No. 1 singles against Vaqueros Sam Whitehead and Ivo Isquiero.
Shari Saeed and
Deniz Okyay's No. 3 doubles match remained unfinished as URTGV's Tsz Him Chan and Paolo Bonaguro led the match 5-4.
In singles play,
Adria Franco earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Bonaguro at the No. 6 doubles. Kumar earned another hard-fought victory at No. 3 doubles against Young, winning 3-6,6-2,6-3. Freshman
Edgar Vilain clinched the winning point for the Patriots with a 7-6(3), 6-3 victory over Chan. Okyay's 6-4, 4-6, 1-1 match at No. 1 singles against Whitehead went unfinished. At No. 2, Lotlikar's singles match against Isquiero also remained unfinished at 7-6(0),5-2. The No. 4 singles match with Simunyola against Roberts also went unfinished at 7-6(2), 4-6, 1-1.
