Owen Stewart recorded the save to help the Patriots complete a three-game sweep against Saint Louis with a 3-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Billiken Sports Center in St. Louis, Mo.
THE LEADOFF
- Drumm tossed a career-high 7.1 innings and Stewart notched his fourth save.
- Graduate student catcher Logan Vaughan drove in two runs.
- Graduate student center fielder Luciano Terilli reached base twice and scored two runs.
George Mason (14-11, 7-2 A-10) took the lead in the fifth against Saint Louis (12-15, 4-5 A-10) junior starter Noah Andrunas. Teriili led off with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Vaughan doubled in a run to put the Patriots in front, 1-0. Senior right fielder
Drew Canody then reached on an error by the center fielder, with Vaughan scoring on the play to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the eighth, Saint Louis loaded the bases with a double and two walks, and scored its lone run of the game on the bases-loaded walk by junior first baseman Riley Iffrig.
The Patriots added an insurance run in the top of the ninth against freshman Loren Georger. Terilli led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After freshman third baseman
Jackson Morse reached on an error to put runners on the corners, Vaughan drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly for the 3-1 final score.
The Patriots completed their third series sweep of the season and second in Atlantic 10 play.
For the Patriots, Drumm (2-0) allowed one run on three hits in 7.1 innings and earned the win. Stewart pitched 1.2 innings to notch his fourth save of the season.
Vaughan went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI and scored a run. Terilli was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored two runs.
For the Billikens, Andrunas (2-3) allowed two runs on five hits in 5.0 innings. Georger gave up an unearned run in the ninth.
The Patriots begin an eight-game homestand when they host USC Upstate on Tuesday with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at Spuhler Field.
