FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's tennis freshman
Edgar Vilain has been named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
This marks the third time the Oakville, Ontario native has garnered the weekly accolade.
Vilain delivered an excellent performance this weekend, going 2-0 in doubles play and 1-0 in singles as the Patriots earned a commanding 4–0 victory against Boston and swept Wagner College 7-0.
On Saturday, the freshman partnered up with teammate
Niza Simunyola to secure a strong 6-2 doubles victory at No. 2 against Boston's Ege Tpkoc and Adrian Quiros.
To close out his weekend, Vilain delivered a 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 comeback victory against Wagner's Vibhu Challagundla at No. 5 singles. At No. 2 doubles, Vilain and Simunyola defeated Wagner's Pablo Rodriguez and Joshua Zhao 6-1.
Vilain and the Patriots (8-3) continue the season on Friday, March 27 at 12 p.m. against Richmond in Fairfax, Va. for their conference opener.
