FAIRFAX, Va. -- The George Mason women's tennis team defeated the visiting Wagner Seahawks on Sunday, March 22 in a close 4-3 contest.
George Mason opened the scoring by taking the doubles point with wins by the No. 1 team of
Cenan Liu and
Mary Young and the No. 2 team,
Brooklyn Siegel and
Maya Bayat.
Young put the home team up 2-0 with a quick 6-0, 6-1 singles win at No. 4. Wagner got on the score board with a win at No. 1 singles, but that was quickly offset by a 6-3, 6-2 win by George Mason's
Maya Bayat at No. 3
.
The Seahawks made it 3-2 with a win at No. 2 singles, but
Noelle Talarek secured the Patriot victory with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. Wagner closed out the scoring by winning a battle at No. 6 singles when
Shivaani Ganesh lost in a third-set tiebreaker.
"This was a good win for us today," commented Coach Steve Curtis. "We didn't play our best but we found a way to win against a solid Seahawk team."
