PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — George Mason softball (13-15, 3-6 A-10) narrowly fell to Saint Joseph's (13-13, 7-2 A-10) with a final score of 2–1 on Sunday, March 22 at SJU Softball Field. The matchup concluded a three-game series between the two Atlantic 10 teams. The Patriots had previously dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader, with the first game ending at 4-5 and the second at 3-7.
George Mason managed six hits and one run, while Saint Joseph's secured the victory with a decisive run in the sixth inning.
George Mason took an early lead in the third inning.
Madi Sobota reached base with a single and advanced to third on
Jessica Chan's base hit.
Logan Pickford then brought Sobota home with a well-placed bunt single. By the end of the inning, the Patriots held a 1–0 advantage.
St. Joe's evened the score in the fourth inning. After a pair of walks put runners on base, a single by Alivia Heers brought Riley York home to tie the game at 1-1.
In the sixth inning, the Hawks took the lead. Hailey Peterson doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Alivia Heers, making it 2–1 in favor of the Hawks. This score held through the end of the game.
Bri Lencz started in the circle for the Green & Gold, pitching 5.0 innings while allowing one earned run on five hits. Lencz struck out four batters and walked two.
Abbey Lane came in as relief and pitched 1.0 inning, giving up one earned run on one hit and one walk. Lane was charged with the loss.
Kamryn Inman led the team offensively, posting two hits in three plate appearances. Pickford added to the effort with one hit and one RBI in three at-bats.
Payton Auerbach contributed one hit and a sacrifice hit, while also recording three assists from her position at second base.
George Mason returns to action against JMU on Wednesday, March 25 at 3 p.m. at the George Mason Softball Complex in Fairfax, Va.
