FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason sophomore starter
Jake Drumm tossed seven shutout innings in the Patriots 3-0 win over St. Bonaventure in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Spuhler Field.
THE LEADOFF
- Drumm struck out six without a walk in his first start of the season.
- Redshirt-junior Owen Stewart notched his second save of the weekend.
- Graduate student center fielder Luciano Terilli had two hits and one RBI.
- Sophomore left fielder Lucas Alberti drove in a run and extended his hitting streak to eight games.
After four scoreless innings, George Mason (9-8) took the lead against St. Bonaventure (4-14) junior starter Enger Paulino in the bottom of the fifth. Junior catcher
Vincent Cowdrey led off with a double down the left field line to start the inning. Senior right fielder
Drew Canody then reached on a throwing error, with Cowdrey scoring from second on the play to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
With one out in the home half of the seventh, freshman second baseman
Julius Bagnerise walked and with two outs, senior shortstop
Owen Clyne was walked intentionally. Alberti and Terilli followed with back-to-back RBI-singles to plate the final runs of the day to make it 3-0.
For the Patriots, Drumm (1-0) scattered four hits over a career-high 7.0 innings with a career-best six strikeouts and no walks to earn the win. Stewart pitched the last two innings with three strikeouts to record his second save of the season.
Junior first baseman
Jake Butler went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to eight games. Terilli was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and one RBI. Alberti finished 1-for-3 with a walk and drove in a run.
For the Bonnies, Paulino (1-4) allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits in 6.2 innings. He walks eight and struck out three. Junior Joey Calabretti worked 1.1 scoreless innings.
The Patriots host Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at Spuhler Field.
