FARMVILLE, Va. – The Patriots fell to Longwood, 11-1 in eight innings, on Tuesday afternoon at Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville, Va.
THE LEADOFF
- Freshman second baseman Julius Bagnerise had two hits including a double and two walks
- Sophomore left field Lucas Alberti reached base three times and drove in a run
- Junior Parker Thomas made his first start as a Patriot
George Mason (6-8) took the lead against Longwood (13-5) graduate student starter Drew Sieger in the top of the first. Bagnerise led off with a single through the right side, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and went to third on a ground out. Sophomore left fielder
Lucas Alberti singled to center and Bagnerise coasted across the plate to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
The Lancers tied the game in the bottom of the third against Patriots junior starter
Parker Thomas with a solo home run. It was the first of 11 unanswered runs for Longwood.
In the fourth, Longwood sent eight batters to the plate and scored three runs on one hit, three walks and two hit batters against junior
Shaun Okeeffe and graduate student
Jackson Peters to take the lead for good, 4-1.
The Lancers added a single run in the fifth, and one in the sixth inning against junior
Tanner Kaler to make it 6-1.
In the seventh, Longwood sent 10 batters to the plate and scored four runs on a hit, four walks and a hit batter against graduate student
Thomas Wrehe in the seventh, and added a single run in the eighth for the 11-1 final score.
For the Patriots, Thomas allowed one run on four hits in 3.0 innings. Okeeffe (0-1) was charged with three runs in the fourth inning and took the loss. Peters gave up one run on three hits in 2.0 innings. Wrehe allowed three runs on one hit and three walks in 1.0 inning.
For the Lancers, Siegner (2-0) allowed one run on three hits in 3.0 innings and earned the win. Two relievers combined for 5.0 scoreless innings for the Lancers.
The Patriots play their first Atlantic 10 series of the season when they host St. Bonaventure for three-games beginning Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. at Spuhler Field.
