FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's tennis team goes 3-0 after defeating Delaware State 4-3 at the BRSC.
 
The women's tennis match between George Mason and Delaware State began at 6:45 p.m. at the Burke Racquet & Swim Club on Saturday. The Patriots walked out of the building nearly at midnight after a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Hornets.

George Mason continued their strong doubles performance as they took the opening doubles point. The No. 1 team of Cenan Liu and Mary Young took their match 6-2. Fifteen minutes later, Brooklyn Siegel and Maya Bayat secured the doubles point at No. 2, winning 6-4.

Young added the first singles point when she defeated Alba Bendito, 7-5, 6-1. The Hornet's first point came as Sia Mahajan defeated Maya Bayat, and then evened the score at 2-2 when Casas Blas bested Cenan Liu in a third-set tiebreaker.

Maitree Diksha Rout put the Patriots back on top 3-2 with her 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 win at the No. 2 singles. Noelle Talarek contended well but fell to the Hornets' Maite Bou Safont, leveling the score at 3-3.

Brooklyn Siegel battled at No. 6 against Hannah Watkins.  The match went back and forth with Watkins taking the first set and Siegel winning the second. After saving two match points, Siegel secured the tiebreaker, earning the final singles point and the match victory for the Patriots with a 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 win.

"I am so proud of how we competed tonight", commented Coach Steve Curtis. "We beat a very solid Hornet team in a long, drawn out battle. I am very proud of them all."

The Patriots take their 3-0 record on the road next weekend when they travel to Annapolis, Md. to take on Navy on Sunday, February 15 at 10 a.m.
