FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's tennis freshman
Edgar Vilain has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
This marks the first time the Oakville, Ontario native has garnered the weekly accolade.
Vilain delivered an excellent performance this weekend, going undefeated in singles play (2–0) and adding a critical doubles victory as the Patriots swept Hofstra 7–0 and secured a hard-fought 4–3 win over Navy.
The freshman partnered up with teammate
Niza Simunyola to secure a strong 6-3 doubles victory at No. 2 against Hofstra's Hideki Matsuoka and Amir Albeg. In singles play, he delivered a commanding 6-0, 6-3 victory against the Pride's Samarth Deepudass at No. 5.
To close out his weekend, Vilain delivered a critical 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 comeback victory against Navy's Ethan Garcia to help clinch George Mason's victory over Navy.
Vilain and the Patriots (2-1) continue the season on Saturday, February 7 at 11 a.m. vs the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.
