FAIRFAX, Va. -- The George Mason women's tennis team stayed undefeated indoor at Burke Racquet & Swim Club this season with a 6-1 victory over Coppin State on Saturday evening.
The Patriots started the match up 1-0 as the Eagles only had five available players resulting in a default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
With a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles from
Brooklyn Siegel and
Maya Bayat the Patriots quickly went up 2-0.
Maitree Diksha Rout defeated Sirena Singh, 6-0, 6-2 to give patriots a 3-0 lead.
Cenan Liu secured the victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 over her Eagles opponent, Brandy Babcock-Hannah.
Maya Bayat and
Shivaani Ganesh both won their matches in straight sets to push the score to 6-0 in favor of the home team.
The Eagles lone point came at the No. 4 position when George Mason newcomer, Ravaka Noemie Ramanantoanina fell in a tough three set battle to Kyla Proctor, 6-3, 4-6, 7-10.
"We defeated a much improved Eagle team tonight," commented Coach Steve Curtis. "We battled through some nerves and came out with a good win".
George Mason's Sunday match at VCU has been postponed due the the forecasted weather for Sunday afternoon and evening.
