Fairfax, Va. – George Mason golf is off to a fast start in the opening round of the Dorado Beach Collegiate Tournament in Puerto Rico, where they are currently tied for third place with Stetson. The tournament features 15 teams, with Elon leading the pack at even par and UNC Greensboro trailing closely at 1-over par. George Mason and Stetson both sit at 2-over par, setting the stage for a competitive tournament.
David Fuhrer II and
Vaughn McMeans paved the way for George Mason, each shooting an impressive two-under par 70. Their performances have them tied for second place individually alongside four other players, contributing significantly to the team's strong position after the opening round. Fuhrer has a good history on the par 72, 7,122-yard TPC Dorado Beach Sugarcane Course, finishing 11th at the 2025 edition his freshman season. McMeans and Fuhrer played the four par fives at 3-under-par.
Uzair Mirza and
Philipp Krone each recorded 3-over-par 73s to round out the scoring for George Mason.
