FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason University (2-3) fell to the College of William and Mary (2-2) with a final score of 12-14 on Saturday at George Mason Stadium.
The match began with the Tribe taking an early lead. The Green & Gold responded after a series of turnovers and penalties, regaining momentum with a man-up goal by
Giselle Torain at 9:36.
Matye Riley then equalized the score with an assisted goal from
Riley Ellis at 6:41. The Patriots continued to press, with Torain scoring again at 4:18 to put the team ahead. By the end of the first quarter, the Patriots led the Tribe 3-2.
The Patriots responded to an early goal by the Tribe with a strong offensive performance in the second quarter.
Delaney Stup capitalized on a man-up opportunity with a free position goal at 12:14, followed by
Kate Anders adding another man-up goal at 9:22. Despite the Tribe regaining momentum with two consecutive goals,
Matye Riley, assisted by Ellis, and Anders each found the net again to keep the Patriots ahead. The quarter ended with both teams adding four goals to their totals, bringing the score to 7-6 in favor of the Patriots as the game continued.
The Patriots opened the third quarter with a goal from Anders at the 12:35 mark, assisted by Ellis, maintaining a narrow lead.
Delaney Stup added to the tally with a free position goal at 8:08, briefly widening the margin. The Tribe responded with three goals, leveling the game at 10-10. However, Anders scored again for the Patriots on a man-up opportunity, assisted once more by Ellis, at 2:46, securing their position. The quarter ended with the teams tied at 10-10.
In the fourth quarter, the Green & Gold's
Kaitlyn Bestick made a significant impact by scoring a goal at 11:11, assisted by Anders, tying the game at 11-11. Despite this effort, the Tribe responded quickly, shifting the momentum.
Matye Riley added another goal for the Patriots at 3:24, narrowing the gap to 14-12. However, the quarter concluded with the Tribe maintaining their lead. The final score was the Tribe 14, the Patriots 12.
