FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason track and field teams hosted the Father Diamond Invitational at the Field House on Friday, February 20. The Patriots claimed 10 event victories in their second home meet of the indoor season.
Morgan Ryerson set the tone early with a win in the women's 60m hurdles, crossing the line in 8.94. Fellow track competitors
Simone Hamlar and
Aylin Yirmibesoglu also turned in strong performances, with Hamlar winning the women's 400m in 57.70 and Yirmibesoglu setting a personal best of 2:20.46 to capture the women's 800m.
Aiko Galvin also recorded a personal best in the 800m, finishing second in 2:21.33. On the men's side,
Nicholas Emmert won the 1000m with a personal record of 2:28.26, while
Daniel Hayes finished close behind in 2:29.38.
Lindsey Meadows added a victory in the women's mile, clocking 5:19.21.
Field events were equally strong for the Patriots.
Alina Florou Dimitriadou won the women's pole vault with a clearance of 3.79m.
William Michael Baker dominated the men's throwing events, taking first in both the shot put (14.08m) and weight throw (15.99m).
Amelia Male earned the women's shot put title with 11.66m and
Fiona Agyekum came in second at 11.64m.
Liza Parkhomenko captured the women's triple jump with a leap of 10.84m.
Looking ahead, pole vaulters
Walt Bannerman and
Kennedy Drish will compete Saturday, February 21, at the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, Va. Bannerman will represent the Green and Gold in the men's pole vault, with action beginning at noon, followed by Drish in the women's pole vault at 2:30 p.m. The
