YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — George Mason (3-2) secured a decisive 17-6 victory over Youngstown St. (0-4) at WATTS on Sunday. The Patriots' offense was led by five power-play goals, contributing to its commanding win.
The game began with George Mason gaining early possession through a draw control by
Kaitlyn Bestick. Although Youngstown St. scored first, the Green & Gold responded quickly.
Matye Riley, assisted by
Kate Anders, equalized, setting a competitive tone. Then,
Giselle Torain took advantage of a free position shot to give the Patriots the lead. Riley continued to impact the game, scoring her second goal of the quarter to push George Mason ahead. Anders further extended the lead with a man-up free position goal. Despite attempts by the Penguin to narrow the gap, the quarter concluded with the Patriots leading 4-2.
George Mason took control in the second quarter, highlighted by
Delaney Stup's goal at 11:46, marking her seventh of the season. Shortly after, Riley extended the lead with a goal at 10:41, assisted by Anders. Anders continued to dominate the draw controls, facilitating another scoring opportunity for Riley at 7:52, this time assisted by
