ORGENE, Ore. – The George Mason baseball team dropped the final game of its series at No. 23 Oregon, 11-1, on Sunday afternoon at PK Park in Eugene, Ore.
Oregon (4-0) scored five runs against George Mason (0-4) graduate student starter
Thomas Wrehe in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. The Ducks scored runs on a bases loaded walk, a two-run double and two RBI-groundouts in the inning.
Graduate student right-hander
Brandon Hsu entered the game in the first inning and recorded three outs.
In the second inning, Oregon added three runs on three singles, one hit batter and took advantage of a Patriots error to extend the lead to 8-0.
George Mason freshman
Aiden Parker took over on the mound in the top of the fourth and struck out the first batter he faced in the NCAA debut.
The Ducks plated a pair of runs in the home half of the fifth on a RBI-triple and RBI-single to make the score 10-0.
In the top of the seventh, sophomore left fielder
Lucas Alberti and senior shortstop
Owen Clyne started the inning with back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners against Ducks junior reliever Toby Twist. With one out, graduate student center fielder
Luciano Terilli drove in the Patriots lone run with a sacrifice fly to left field.
For the Patriots, Wrehe (0-1) was charged with five runs on two hits and took the loss. Hsu gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits in 3.0 innings. Parker allowed two runs on five hits in 2.0 innings.
Sophomore
Michael Madigan (1.0), along with graduate students
Carter Kelsey (1.0),
Sam DiLella (0.2) and
Tyson Willis (1.1) combined for three scoreless innings. Wrehe, Hsu, Kelsey and DiLella each made their Patriots debut, and Parker made his collegiate debut.
For the Ducks, junior Ryan Featherston (1-0) scattered two hits over 6.0 scoreless innings to earn the win. Twist gave up one run on two hits in the seventh. Senior Devin Bell and sophomore Luke Morgan each pitched a scoreless inning.
Terilli went 2-for-3 and drove in a run. Alberti was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
The Patriots are back on the diamond against Seton Hall and Ball State at the Swig & Swine Classic beginning Friday, Feb. 20 in Charleston, S.C.
