FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason senior Vijay "JJ" Powell is ranked as the NCAA D1 top golfer by The Differential, after winning the Rod Myers Duke Invitational last week, becoming the Patriots first golfer to earn a top ranking.
The senior has a 64.0 rating just ahead of Illinois' Max Heredeen (64.07) and Ryder Cowen from Oklahoma (64.09).
Powell captured his first collegiate tournament title last week with a two-round score of 134 (68-66), finishing 10-under par on the par-72, 7,154-yard Duke University Golf Course.
The Midlothian, Va., native's second-round 66 tied for the seventh-lowest individual round in George Mason history, while his 10-under-par score through 36 holes ranks as the second-lowest 36-hole score in program history.
George Mason continues its 2026-27 season at the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational, hosted by West Virginia, Oct. 5-6.
