NORFOLK, Va. – The George Mason swimming and diving teams swept their first dual of the season at Old Dominion on Friday night in Norfolk, Va. The Patriots' women's team defeated the Monarchs, 149-113, while the men's team posted a 139-123 victory.
On the women's side, senior
Hannah Magdeburg, sophomore
Sidney Kaufman and freshmen
Hadleigh Kulas and
Bella Lorack won the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.57) to start the meet. Lorack placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (56.82).
Freshman
Mary Boone won the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.62) and sophomore
Alexis Brazier was (5:20.52). Boone placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:29.40).
The Patriots took three of the top four spots in the 200-yard freestyle, with sophomore
Madelyn Abel first (1:55.30), senior
Kristen Ivey third (1:59.31) and senior
Casey Tingen fourth (2:00.29). Magdeburg won the 100-yard freestyle (53.40) with Abel second (53.71) and Tingen fourth (54.23).
George Mason went two-three in the 100-yard backstroke, with Kaufman touching the wall second (56.78) and junior
Greta Mott third (59.06). In the 200-yard backstroke, Kaufman touched the wall first (2:05.07), Mott placed third (2:10.91) and sophomore
Lucy Daniel finished fourth (2:11.50).
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Kulas took the top spot (1:04.80) and sophomore
Landry Liston was second (1:06.33). Kulas also won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.71) and Ivey placed second (2:23.88).
Lorack won the 50-yard freestyle (24.24) with Magdeburg right behind in second (24.87). In the 200-yard IM, freshman
Nora David placed second (2:09.90) and Ivey finished third (2:11.50).
The team of Lorack, Magdeburg, Tingen and Boone won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.31).
On the men's side, the combination of graduate student
Aoun Al-Hiari, senior
Ian Rodgers, junior
Gabriel Miller and freshman
Eric Koler won the 200-yard medley relay (1:31.04).
Freshman
Maddox Matyas touched the wall second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:03.04). In the 200-yard freestyle, freshman
Maximus Gelinas took the top spot (1:42.66).
The Patriots took three of the top four spots in the 100-yard backstroke with Rodgers first (49.12), junior
Anthony Garono third (53.40) and freshman
Isaac Harter fourth (53.43). Rodgers also won the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.95), freshman
Harris Abernathy was second (1:55.06) and Harter finished third (1:55.93).
In the 100-yard backstroke, Koler placed third (57.91) and freshman
Tommy Watson was fourth (57.92).
George Mason went one-two in the 200-yard butterfly with freshman
Jacob Anderson first (1:53.71) and classmate
Lucas Landers second (1:55.68). Al-Hiari placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (48.53).
Senior
Alex Crown touched the wall second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.47) and Matyas was fourth (4:50.20).
The Patriots are back in action Oct. 9-10 at the Richmond Duals held at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
