DJ McGee has been named the East Mid-American Conference (MAC) Wrestler of the Week after an outstanding performance at the David Lehman Open held at the Alumni Sports & Fitness Center on the Franklin & Marshall campus on Friday, Jan. 9.
Nationally ranked all season long, the top-seeded #21 McGee led the Patriots with a second-place finish at 157 pounds. He won five straight matches, including three with bonus points, before earning a spot in the championship. In the title match, McGee battled second-seeded Kai Owen but dropped the match by fall. The junior improved to 14-2 on the season.
The MAC weekly award is the first this season and fourth in McGee's collegiate career.
The honor marks the fourth MAC Wrestler of the Week award this season for the Patriots.
Malachi DuVall earned the honor on Dec. 23.
Logan Messer and
Evan Maag won in back-to-back weeks, Nov. 11 and 18
th.
The Green and Gold will next travel to Bloomsburg, Pa. for a MAC match against the Huskies, Friday, January 16 at 6 pm.
