Farmington, Pa. – The George Mason men's golf team battled through 36 holes of play on Monday at the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational, closing the day tied for eighth place with Campbell University. The two-day, 54-hole event is being contested at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, a Mystic Rock course and hosted by West Virginia University.
Sophmore
Vaughn McMeans paced the Patriots with an outstanding performance, carding rounds of 72 and 67 to finish the day at 5-under-par (139). McMeans sits tied for second place individually, just one stroke off the tournament lead heading into Tuesday's final round. His second-round 67 featured seven birdies and a bogey-free back nine that vaulted him up the leaderboard.
Junior
Vijay Powell also turned in a strong showing, firing a second-round 64 to stand at 5-under overall, climbing nearly 40 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 30th. David Fuhrer added consistency with rounds of 70 and 71, finishing the day at 1-under (141).
Sivawong Aukrawat (73–73) and
Pierce Hokenson (75–78) rounded out Mason's lineup.
As a team, the Patriots head into Tuesday's third and final round firmly in the top half of the leaderboard and within reach of a top-five finish in a highly competitive 19-team field.
