Patriots Open Canadian Collegiate Invitational in 8th Place After Round One

MacTier, Ontario – The George Mason golf team sits in 8th place after the opening round of the Canadian Collegiate Invitational at Öviinbyrd Golf Club. The Patriots carded a team total of (288) on Sunday to finish in the middle of the pack in a highly competitive field.

Leading the way for Mason was David Fuhrer, who fired an even-par 72, highlighted by back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15 to close his round strong.

Uzair Mirza and Philipp Krone both turned in steady performances, each posting a one-over par 73 to contribute to the team score.

JJ Powell and Vaughn McMeans rounded out the Mason lineup with matching 74s. Powell had a notable stretch on the back nine, going 3-under across four holes, while McMeans kept steady with nine pars on the inward nine.

At the top of the leaderboard, Notre Dame leads the field, followed closely by Michigan, UNC Wilmington, Missouri, Michigan State, Miami (OH), and Rutgers, with George Mason just behind in 8th place. 

The Patriots return to action Monday with round two, beginning at 9:20 am as they look to climb the leaderboard before Tuesday's final round.
