Fairfax, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) has announced its University Division Indoor Track and Field All-State Teams, with George Mason University earning two major honors. Head Coach Andrew Gerard and his coaching staff were named VaSID Coach of the Year, while standout student-athlete Abby Weening earned a spot on the All-State Second Team.

Coach Gerard and his staff — Tim Nickas, Tony Mihalich, Reynaldo Radlin, Michelle Wallerstedt, Ivan Chirinos, Carson Gardner, Bobby Kestyn, Morgan Holmes, and Susanna Sullivan — led the Patriots to a historic victory at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships in February. It marked George Mason's first indoor conference title since 2014, ending an 11-year drought.

Under Coach Gerard's leadership, the Patriots scored 119.5 points, capturing the championship with four top-three finishes and a crucial fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, which sealed the team's overall victory. For their efforts, Gerard and his entire coaching staff earned Atlantic 10 Coaching Staff of the Year honors — recognition now echoed by the VaSID Coach of the Year award.

Abby Weening played a pivotal role in the team's success, winning gold in both the pentathlon (3669 points) and the high jump (1.70m) at the A-10 Championships. Her exceptional performance earned her the title of Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Year, and she has now been recognized by VaSID with Second Team All-State honors.
