CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
TYSONS, Va. – The second-seeded George Mason Patriots beat the fifth-seeded Saint Joseph's Hawks, 11-7, in the 2025 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship on Thursday afternoon at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va.
It was all George Mason through the first four innings. Junior center fielder and golden spikes semi-finalist
James Quinn-Irons once again got the Patriots started today with a single up the middle, bringing junior shortstop
Owen Clyne home. Sophomore third baseman
Jake Butler followed in Quinn-Irons footsteps, bringing sophomore right fielder
Owen Hull home on a fielder's choice to put the Patriots up 2-0.
A wild pitch and another hit from Quinn-Irons put the Patriots up 6-0 in the 2
nd inning. Butler followed that up with a two-run homer, ending the second with a commanding 8-0 lead.
Three more runs came in the 4
th inning: a Butler single scored Hull, then Quinn-Irons stole home, followed by a balk that sent Butler home. The Hawks made a commanding comeback in the 4
th and 5
th innings, putting up seven runs, but the Patriots held off the run to secure the victory.
Either Quinn-Irons or Butler contributed in all but one run the Patriots scored in the 11-7 win. Quinn-Irons went 4-5 on the day with 2 runs and 3 RBIs, while Butler went 2-5 with 2 runs and 4 RBIs.
The Patriots will continue their hunt for the championship, facing the winner of #4 Davidson and #7 Dayton on Friday morning with the first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. at Capital One Park.
