Fairfax, Va. – George Mason men's golfer Vaughn McMeans is tied for 10th overall heading into the round of the 2025 National Golf Invitational at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.
McMeans scored a Par 72 today to remain 3-under-par after 36 holes. The freshman had four birdies and four bogeys in today's round.
George Mason sophomore JJ Powell carded a two-over-par 74 today and sits t-25 heading into the final round on Sunday.
The National Golf Invitational, introduced in 2023 by Golfweek, serves as golf's version of college basketball's NIT. The invitation-only field is selected based on Golfweek/Sagarin and Golfstat rankings, factoring in strong regular-season performances.
Ak-Chin Southern Dunes, co-designed by Brian Curley and Fred Couples in 2002, spans 320 acres of reclaimed tribal land. Owned by the Ak-Chin Community since 2010, it's recognized among Golfweek's "Top 100 Resort Courses" and "Best Courses You Can Play."
