DAVIDSON, N.C. – George Mason junior starter
Brandon Cassedy struck earned his seventh win of the season to lead the Patriots to a 6-2 victory over Davidson on Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C.
THE LEADOFF
- Cassedy struck out a season-high nine batters and is tied for second in the A-10 in wins.
- Sophomore third baseman Jake Butler reached base three times and drove in two runs.
- The Patriots won their eighth Atlantic 10 series of the season and sixth in a row.
- George Mason has 19 conference wins, the most since joining the A-10 and the most for the program since the 2009 season.
George Mason (35-17, 19-8 A-10) took the lead against Davidson (23-26, 16-11 A-10) sophomore starter Cooper Cavanaugh in the first inning.

Owen Hull were each issued a free pass to load the bases. Butler worked the count full before he walked to force in a run to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
Cassedy retired the first eight batters of the game and 12 of the first 13 he faced through four innings. He scattered five singles in his outing and allowed two baserunners in an inning just once.
The Patriots tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the fifth against Davidson relievers Simon Yochum and Jason Ban. Graduate student catcher

Jonny Wall moved him into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Clyne then singled to second base to put runners on the corners. Quinn-Irons drove in a run with a single up the middle and with two outs, Butler knocked in his second run of the day with an infield single to increase the lead to 3-0.
George Mason added two more runs in the top of the seventh against sophomore Adam Katz and freshman Jacob Vokal. Quinn-Irons led off with a walk, went to second on a ground out and scored on a two-out single by Alberti. After Alberti advanced to second on a wild pitch, Hueber plated a run with a single to center to make the score 5-0.
With one out in the top of the ninth, Butler walked and Alberti singled against Wildcats junior Ed Hall. After a fielder's choice ground out, junior designated hitter
Evan Blanchard plated a run with a single up the middle to pad the lead to 6-0.
In the bottom of the ninth, Davidson scored two unearned runs against graduate student reliever Garnder Meeks for the 6-2 final score.
For the Patriots, Cassedy (7-1) scattered five hits over 7.1 innings to earn the win. He struck out a season-high nine batters with just one walk. Meeks gave up two unearned runs on two hits in 1.2 innings.
For the Wildcats, Cavanaugh one run no hits and four walks in 2.0 innings. Yochum gave up two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings. Ban gave up a hit and retired one batter in his outing. Katz surrendered one run on one hit in 1.2 innings. Hall allowed one run on two hits in the ninth.
Butler went 1-for-3 with two walks, two RBI and scored a run. Alberti and Hueber each went 2-for-5 and drove in a run. Blanchard was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Clyne finished 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
The Patriots play their final road game of the season when they visit Virginia on Tuesday with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va.
