DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Patriots dropped the second game of their series at Davidson, 6-4, on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C.
THE LEADOFF
- Freshman left fielder Lucas Alberti had two hits, one RBI and scored two runs.
- Sophomore second baseman Toby Hueber had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
George Mason (34-17, 18-8 A-10) took the lead against Davidson (23-25, 16-10 A-10) senior starter Isaac Fix in the first inning. With one out, sophomore right fielder
Owen Hull walked and with two outs sophomore third baseman
Jake Butler singled. Alberti stepped in and extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a RBI-single to right field to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
In the top of the fifth the Patriots put together a two-out rally to extend the lead. Butler walked and Alberti singled to put runners on first and second. Hueber then plated a run with a base knock and Alberti stole both third and home to make the score 3-0.

Connor O'Hara didn't allow a hit through the first four innings.
In the home half of the fifth, the Wildcats sent nine batters to the plate and took the lead. The Wildcats began the inning with back-to-back singles. Davidson senior catcher Noah Jouras lifted a ball to left field, where Alberti made a leaping effort at the wall and nearly robbed the Wildcats of a home run, but the ball fell over the fence to tie the game, 3-3.
A single, hit batter and walk loaded the bases and the Wildcats scored a run with a groundout and another with an infield single to take a 5-3 lead.
The Patriots got a run back in the top of the seventh against Davidson junior reliever Matt Weber. With one out, Alberti walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Hueber then drove in his second run of the day with a single to left-center to pull the Patriots within a run at 5-4.
In the bottom of the eighth, Davidson loaded the bases against George Mason graduate student reliever
Daniel Elliott with a single and two walks. With two outs, Wildcats senior shortstop Jack Cotrone saw 10 pitches in his at-bat before drawing a walk to force in an insurance run for the 6-4 final score.
For the Patriots, O'Hara (7-4) allowed five runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in 6.0 innings and took the loss. Elliott gave up one run on one hit with four strikeouts and four walks in 2.0 innings.
For the Wildcats, Fix (6-4) allowed three runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and six walks in 5.0 innings and earned the win. Weber gave up one run on one hit over 4.0 innings to notch his fifth save.
Alberti went 2-for-4 with one RBI and scored two runs. Hueber was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Butler finished 1-for-4 and scored a run.
The Patriots left 10 runners on base and the Wildcats left four runners on base in the game.
The Patriots and Wildcats play the rubber match of the series on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C.
