ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - In a hard-fought Atlantic 10 matchup, George Mason put together a determined effort on the road but ultimately came up short against a sharp St. Bonaventure squad, falling 16–11.
After an early goal from standout attacker Kate Anders gave the Patriots a brief 1–0 lead, the Bonnies responded with a seven-goal first quarter that proved to be the difference-maker. Despite the early deficit, George Mason regrouped and delivered a strong second quarter, outscoring the Bonnies 5–4 thanks to three goals from Lauren Distad, and one from Anders and Kaitlyn Bestick each. The Patriots' offense showed moments of cohesion and resilience, cutting the lead to four by halftime, 11–7.
The second half saw continued fight from the Patriots, including a pair of man-up goals from Trippel and a composed finish from Camryn Myers. Kate Anders capped off her hat trick with her third goal late in the fourth, finishing with a game-high five points (3 goals, 2 assists). Lauren Distad also recorded a hat trick, while Riley Ellis chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Goalkeeper Regan Bestick had a busy day between the pipes, notching 15 saves against 31 shots on goal to keep the Patriots within striking distance.
Although St. Bonaventure controlled the draw (20–10) and fired off nearly twice as many shots (42–22), the Patriots made the most of their opportunities and showed a level of execution that bodes well for their continued development.
