AMHERST, Va. - The George Mason women's lacrosse team fought hard but ultimately came up short against undefeated Atlantic 10 powerhouse UMass, falling 26-4 on Saturday afternoon at Garber Field. Despite the final score, the Patriots showed moments of grit and determination, refusing to back down against a nationally respected opponent.
Kate Anders led George Mason's offense with two goals, showing off her scoring ability with an unassisted tally late in the third quarter and another in the fourth.
Giselle Torain got the Patriots starting strong, netting the game's opening goal just two minutes in off a crisp feed from
Riley Ellis, giving the Patriots early momentum.
Dahlia Trippel also found the back of the net with a determined effort in the second quarter.
While UMass's offensive firepower was difficult to contain,
Regan Bestick stood tall in net for the Patriots, recording eight saves against a relentless 40-shot barrage.
George Mason also managed to win six draw controls against UMass's dominant midfield and forced 14 turnovers, showing hustle and defensive pressure throughout the afternoon.
