Fairfax, Va -- The Mason women's tennis team battled the wind as well as the visiting Towson Tigers. The Patriots fell 0-4 to the Tigers in the home tilt.
Towson opened the scoring by sweeping the doubles to put the first point on the board. They went up 2-0 when
Mary Young dropped her match at the #2 position and then the lead went to 3-0 when #6
Brooklyn Siegel lost her match. The 4th point came at the #4 position as Towson's Gaia Montecchi defeated
Noelle Talarek.
George Mason was doing well in the other matches that were still in progress.
Maya Bayat, playing at #3, was ahead 6-1, 5-5 on the scoreboard when the match was decided.
Cenan Liu and
Lauren Splett had both lost their first sets but were up in the second sets.
"This was truly a battle today, both against out Tiger opponents but also the wind. We don't play in 40 mile an hour gusts as a norm. But tennis is about overcoming adversities and I think we learned a lot today that will help us in the future", commented Coach Curtis following the match.
The Patriots will host Delaware State at 2pm on Thursday and VCU at 2pm on Friday to wrap up the regular season.
