FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason dropped their first game Sunday afternoon against Ohio, 2-1. Later, the Patriots beat Longwood in a hard-fought battle 4-2.
GEORGE MASON 1, OHIO 2
In game one, Sophomore
Kylie Wilkerson (0-3) pitched a complete game. In seven innings, she gave up two runs from three hits and no errors. She had zero walks and a new season high of five strikeouts.
In the top of the second inning, Longwood got their first hit of the game to get a runner on, and with two errors, the Lancers had the bases loaded. All runners were left on base.
George Mason had one hit in the bottom of the second.
Logan Pickford singled to right center but was eventually left on base.
The Lancers got their only two runs on the board in the top of the third inning. Yuhas walked and Keidel laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runner into scoring position. Farmer grounded out to first base, moving the runner, and then Hoffner reached first on a throwing error to score the first run. Westler tripled to right field, scoring the second run, making it 2-0.
The Patriots score one run off two hits and one error in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Madi Sobota singled to the catcher,
Kamryn Inman reached first on an error, and
Maya McGowan singled up the middle to get a run on the board, 2-1.
GEORGE MASON 4, LONGWOOD 2
In the Patriots' second game, Junior
Harlowe Nigh (2-3) started in the circle. She pitched 4.0 innings and gave up two hits and two runs on two errors. She threw two strikeouts and walked one batter.
George Mason got the bats going in the bottom of the first inning.
Elyssa DeRosa walked and then
Logan Pickford stepped up and hit a monster two-run home run to get the Patriots on the board, 2-0.
The Lancers responded in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs to even the score, 2-2. Knock hit a single to center field and then Miller hit a two-run home run over the left-center field wall.
Charlotte Montgomery walked and
Kaitlyn Bronowicz hit a double to score one more run in the bottom of the second inning, making it 3-2.
The Patriots scored one more run in the bottom of the third inning.
Logan Pickford hit a single up the middle, advancing runners and scoring DeRosa.
Freshman
Abbey Lane came in to pitch in the top of the fifth inning. She pitched 3.0 innings and gave up no hits, runs, or errors. She walked one batter and had two strikeouts. Lane earned her second save of the season.
