RICHMOND, Va. - The George Mason women's lacrosse team battled hard but faced a tough challenge against Richmond, falling 20-4 on the road.
The Patriots started the game on defense, with goalkeeper
Regan Bestick making key saves to keep them in the fight early on. However, Richmond struck first, netting two goals in the opening quarter while Mason struggled to find an offensive rhythm. The second quarter showed promise for the Patriots, as
Daniella Jimenez and
Dahlia Trippel found the back of the net, briefly tying the game at 2-2. Jimenez added another goal later in the quarter, but Richmond's attack responded with a furious scoring run, closing the half with an eight-goal surge to take a commanding 10-3 lead.
Coming out of halftime, the Patriots looked to regroup, but Richmond maintained control of the game. Jimenez added her third goal of the night in the third quarter, showcasing her ability to finish under pressure. Unfortunately, George Mason's defense struggled to contain Richmond's offensive depth, as the home team continued to dominate possession and capitalize on scoring opportunities. Despite strong efforts from Bestick, who recorded 10 saves, Richmond outshot Mason 39-16, demonstrating their ability to apply relentless pressure. The Patriots fought to slow down their opponent's attack, but Richmond's lead extended to 15-4 by the end of the third quarter.
The final quarter saw Richmond continue their dominance, adding five more goals while Mason's offense was unable to break through. Turnovers and penalties made it difficult for the Patriots to mount a comeback, as Richmond controlled the draw and dictated the pace of play. As the final horn sounded, the final score read Richmond 20, Patriots 4.
