FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason dropped both games on day one of their weekend tournament. First against Ohio, 9-0 in six innings, and later against Longwood, 3-2.
GEORGE MASON 0, OHIO 9
In game one, Senior
Jordan Anderson (1-3) started in the circle for the Patriots. She pitched 5.1 innings and gave up seven hit hits, six runs, and three errors. She had one strikeout and walked two batters.
Ohio got their first run on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Hoffner hit a one-run home run over the left-center wall, 1-0.
George Mason had two hits in the bottom of the third inning, a single by
Elyssa DeRosa and
Maddy Johnson, but both runners were left on base.
The Bobcats kept the hits going in the top of the fifth (2 R, 2 H, 0 E, 2 LOB). Kennelly singled to left field, Yuhas was hit by a pitch, and Farmer walked to get the bases loaded. Hoffner stepped up and hit a single to center field, scoring two runs to make it 3-0.
The Patriots had one more hit in the bottom of the fifth inning by
Emily Lampela and a walk to have runners in scoring position, but both runners were left on base.
The Bobcats turned up the heat in the top of the sixth inning with three hits and one error, scoring six runs. Hoffner hit an inside-the-park home run, scoring four runs, and two other Bobcats had hits to get their final runs on the board to make it 9-0.
GEORGE MASON 2, LONGWOOD 3
In the Patriots' second game, Freshman
Abbey Lane started in the circle. She pitched 5.1 innings and gave up six hits, two runs, and two errors. She threw seven strikeouts, which ties her career high, and had no walks.
Longwood got the first run on the board in the top of the second inning. Guy doubled to left field, Bucholz grounded out to the pitcher, advancing the runner to third, and Miller knocked the run in with a single down the left-field line, 1-0.
The Patriots scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off two hits.
Kamryn Inman walked, and
Charlotte Montgomery and
Maya McGowan both grounded out, advancing Inman.
Kaitlyn Bronowicz singled through the left side, scoring Inman, and then
Elyssa DeRosa stepped up and hit a triple to right field, scoring Bronowicz, 2-1.
The Lancers responded in the top of the sixth inning, scoring one run to tie the game, 2-2. Bennett and Guy both doubled to right center field, and Bucholz singled toward second.
Longwood scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning. Knock doubled to left center field, and Pisacano laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing the runner to third. Drake grounded out to second base, scoring the run.
