TYSONS, Va. – Graduate student starter
Connor O'Hara allowed just one single in the Patriots 18-0 win over Longwood in seven innings at the DMV Classic on Saturday afternoon in Tysons, Va.
George Mason (10-4) extended its winning streak to eight games and has outscored opponents by a combined 115-33. It's the longest winning streak for the Patriots since a 10-game streak March 6-18, 2009.
THE LEADOFF
- O'Hara earned his first win as a Patriot and faced just 22 batters with 12 groundouts and six strikeouts.
- Junior center fielder James Quinn-Irons had three hits, four RBI and two runs scored.
- Sophomore designated hitter Owen Hull reached base four times with four RBI and three runs scored.
- Sophomore third baseman Jake Butler finished with three hits, drove in three runs and scored two runs.
- Sophomore second baseman Toby Hueber reached base three times including his first career triple.
- Every player in the starting lineup reached base at least once and seven players scored at least two runs.
George Mason (10-4) took the lead for good against Longwood (4-10) freshman starter Alex Strickland in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Quinn-Irons singled to shortstop and raced all the way around from first base on Butler's single to left-center to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.

Drew Canody was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
With two outs, Hueber rumbled home on a wild pitch and Hull drove in a pair of runs with a single through the left side to increase the lead to 4-0.
In the third, the Patriots sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on four hits, two walks and one hit batter.
Butler led off the inning with a walk and with one out, Hueber singled. Both players then moved up a base on a balk. Junior shortstop
Owen Clyne then drove in a pair of runs with a single to extend the advantage to 6-0.
With two out in the inning, five straight Patriots reached base against Lancers graduate student Isaiah Brewington. Canody knocked in a run with a single to make it 7-0. Freshman left fielder
Lucas Alberti walked and Hull was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Quinn-Irons, who drove a two-run single up the middle to pad the lead to 9-0. Butler then reached on an error with two runs crossing the plate to make the score 11-0.
In the home half of the fifth, Alberti led off with a single and Hull followed with a RBI-double down the right field line for the 12th run of the game. With one out, Butler knocked in a run with a single and on the play, he raced all the way around the bases to score on a throwing error to make it 14-0.
George Mason sent eight batters to the plate in the sixth and scored four more runs against Lancers freshman Kaiden Takahashi-Trader and junior Caleb Grizzard.
The Patriots loaded the bases before Hull forced in a run with the fourth free pass of the inning. Quinn-Irons then plated a pair of runs with a single and Butler followed with a RBI-single for the 18-0 final score.
For the Patriots, O'Hara (1-1) allowed just one single in the fourth inning. He struck out six without a walk in the game, and recorded 12 groundouts, six strikeouts, one pop out and one fly out.
For the Lancers, Strickland (0-1) surrendered 11 runs, nine earned, on seven hits in 3.0 innings and took the loss. Brewington gave up three runs on five hits in 2.0 innings. Takahashi-Trader allowed three runs and retired one batter.
Quinn-Irons went 3-for-5 with a pair of two-run singles and scored two runs. Butler was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Hull finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and scored three runs.
The Patriots face Towson on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. at Capital One Park.
