FAIRFAX, Va. – Sophomore third baseman
Jake Butler drove in a pair of runs in the 11th inning to lift the Patriots to an 8-6 win over Georgetown in the first game at the DMV Classic on Friday afternoon in Tysons, Va.
George Mason extended its winning streak to seven games.
THE LEADOFF
- Butler went 2-for-3, reached base four times, drove in four runs and scored one run.
- Junior center fielder James Quinn-Irons was 3-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and scored three runs.
- Freshman left fielder Lucas Alberti had two hits and scored a run.
- Senior Britt Yount pitched earned his first collegiate save.
George Mason (9-4) took the lead against Georgetown (4-9) graduate student starter J.T. Raab in the first inning. With one out, sophomore designated hitter
Owen Hull singled and Quinn-Irons tripled off the wall in center to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
After a walk to sophomore second baseman
Toby Hueber put runners on the corners and Butler dropped down a sacrifice bunt, with Quinn-Irons coasting across the plate to make it 2-0.
In the top of the second, Alberti led off with a double off the wall in right-center and Hull moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt. Quinn-Irons was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and third for the second straight inning. Hueber then lifted a ball to left field and Alberti was thrown out at the plate to end the threat.
In the home half of the fifth, Georgetown sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs against George Mason junior

Sam Lavin to take a 5-2 lead.
Hoyas graduate student left fielder Kavi Kaster plated a pair of runs with a double while senior center Owen Carapellotti and senior designated hitter Jaden Sheffield each had a RBI single in the inning.
The Patriots responded in the top of the sixth.
Quinn-Irons led off with a single, stole second and went to third on a throwing error. Hueber then walked and Butler knocked in a run with a single through the left side to make it 5-3. Freshman catcher

Jonny Wall drove in a run with an infield single to make it a one-run game, 5-4.
Junior right fielder Drew Canady reached on a fielding error on a dropped fly ball with Butler scoring on the play and Wall would race home on a passed ball to put the Patriots ahead, 6-5.
The Hoyas tied the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.
In the 11th inning, Alberti got the rally started with a one-out single up the middle. With two outs, Quinn-Irons was intentionally walked and Hueber followed with his fourth free pass of the game to load the bases.
Butler stepped in a drove a single into right field, with Alberti and Quinn-Irons crossing the plate.
For the Patriots, Rumberg allowed two runs on four hits in 4.0 innings. Okeeffe surrendered three runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Lavin (2-0) tossed 5.2 innings of one-run ball. Yount pitched the 11th for his first career save.
For the Hoyas, Raab gave up six runs, two earned, on seven hits in 5.2 innings. Junior Kai Leckszas tossed 4.1 innings of one-hit ball. Booker (0-1) gave up two runs on two hits and took the loss.
The Patriots face Longwood on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. at Capital One Park.
