FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason Patriots dropped both games today against the Minutewomen, 2-1 and 6-5 (nine innings).
GEORGE MASON 1, MASSACHUSETTS 2
Kylie Wilkerson (3-4) made her eighth start in game one today. She pitched a complete game, giving up six hits, two runs, four walks, and five strikeouts.
The first run of the game wasn't scored until the top of the seventh inning by the Minutewomen of UMass. They scored two runs off three hits. Torres homered to left field getting one run on the board, then Rama singled to right field, Musch walked, and Keefe singled up the middle scoring the second run.
The George Mason Patriots had one more chance to score in the bottom of the seventh but could only get one on the board.
Tess Altevers Harris hit a home run to left field.
GEORGE MASON 5, MASSACHUSETTS 6 (9 Innings)
In game two of this series,
Harlowe Nigh made her 14
th appearance in the pitcher's circle. She pitched three innings and gave up two hits, one run, and two walks.
George Mason struck first in the bottom of the first inning. The Patriots scored one run off one hit.
Elyssa DeRosa walked,
Madi Sobota laid down a bunt single, and
Emily Lampela laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance runners.
Logan Pickford grounded out to second base but scored the run, 1-0
Massachusetts evened the score in the top of the third inning off two hits. Musch singled up the middle and stole second, and Keefe doubled down the right-field line, scoring one, 1-1.
The Patriots scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off two hits and one error.
Jessica Chan singled to left field, and
Charlotte Montgomery reached first on a throwing error, advancing to home, 3-1.
Elyssa DeRosa singled to right center but was ultimately left on base
The Patriots kept it going in the bottom of the sixth scoring two runs off one hit and two errors. Pickford singled to shortstop,
Tess Altevers Harris reached on a fielding error, and
Kamryn Inman reached on a throwing error. Chan reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Inman, 5-1
The Minutewomen tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning off four hits. Heslin homered to left field, Musch singled to third base, Keefe singled through the left side, and Woodworth singled.
In extra innings, UMass scored in the top of the ninth inning off two hits. Musch laid down a bunt for a base hit, and Keefe laid down a sacrifice bunt advancing the runner. Woodworth singled to second base, scoring a run to take the lead 6-5.
