ARLINGTON, Va. – The Patriots rallied for three runs in the eighth inning but dropped the middle game of their series at George Washington, 8-7, on Saturday afternoon at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Va.
THE LEADOFF
- Sophomore right fielder Owen Hull hit a two-run home run and scored three runs.
- Junior center fielder James Quinn-Irons had three hits with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored.
- The Patriots have hit 14 home runs in the last 13 games.
George Washington (15-11, 5-3 A-10) took the lead against George Mason (16-11, 4-4 A-10) graduate student starter
Connor O'Hara in the bottom of the first. The first two batters of the game reached base with a walk and hit by pitch and after a strike out, sophomore catcher Robbie Lavey hit a three-run home run to right field to put the Revolutionaries in front.
The Patriots got on the board in the top of the third against Revolutionaries senior starter Teddy Brennan. With one out, Hull and Quinn-Irons each walked and sophomore third baseman
Jake Butler then knocked in a run with a single through the left side to cut the lead to 3-1.
In the home half of the third, the Revolutionaries scored three runs on four hits to increase the advantage to 6-1.
In the top of the fifth, the Patriots sent nine batters to the plate and scored three runs on just two hits. Revolutionaries' pitchers walked two batters and hit two batters in the inning.
Sophomore second baseman
Toby Hueber led off with a single and stole second. After Hull was hit by a pitch, Quinn-Irons delivered with a RBI-single through the left side to make it 6-2.
George Washington made a pitching change with junior Max Haug taking over of the mound. Butler dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move a pair of runners into scoring position. Freshman catcher

Lucas Alberti forced in a run with a walk to trim the lead to 6-3.
Junior shortstop
Owen Clyne was then hit by a pitch to make it a two-run game at 6-4. The Patriots left the bases loaded as Haug ended the rally with two straight strikeouts.
In the bottom of the fifth, George Washington loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a fielding error but O'Hara was able to get out of the jam with an inning-ending ground out.
The Revolutionaries plated a run with a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth against Patriots' sophomore reliever
Cole Egan to extend the lead to 7-4.
In the home half of the seventh, George Washington loaded the bases with a single, hit by pitch and a walk before senior right fielder Sam Gates forced in a run with a walk to add to the lead at 8-4. Graduate student reliever
Gardner Meeks recorded the final out of the inning with a ground out as George Washington left the bases loaded.
With one out in the top of the eighth, graduate student first baseman
Jonny Wall singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Junior designated hitter
Laken Tignor plated a run with a double down the left field line, his first extra-base hit with the Patriots, to make the score 8-5.
With two outs, Hull belted a two-run home run off George Washington junior reliever Cade Davis to pull the Patriots within a run, 8-7.
For the Patriots, O'Hara (3-2) allowed six runs on nine hits in 5.0 innings and took the loss. He struck out six and walked one. Egan gave up two runs on three hits in 1.2 innings. Meeks tossed 1.1 scoreless innings.
For George Washington, Brennan allowed four runs on five hits in 4.0 innings. Haug (1-1) gave up two runs on three runs in 3.1 innings and earned the win. Davis surrendered one run on three hits in 1.2 innings and picked up the save.
Quinn-Irons went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored. Hull finished 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Butler and Wall each had two hits in the game.
The Patriots and Revolutionaries wrap up the series on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for noon at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Va.
