ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The George Mason baseball team dropped the final game of its series to St. Bonaventure, 7-3, on Sunday afternoon at Handler Park in St. Bonaventure, N.Y.
THE LEADOFF
Sophomore right fielder
Owen Hull had two hits including a double, one RBI and one run scored.
Graduate student first baseman
Jonny Wall had two hits and a stolen base.
St. Bonaventure (8-14, 1-5 A-10) took the lead against George Mason (16-8, 4-2 A-10) junior starter
Brandon Cassedy in the second inning. With one out, senior designated hitter Robert Mannino singled up the middle and with two out, senior third baseman Harrison Kaufman doubled to left-center to put the Bonnies in front, 1-0.
In the home half of the fifth, sophomore Connor Vercollone hit a solo home run to make the score 2-0.
The Bonnies loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh against Patriots junior
Logan Rumberg. After a pitching change, St. Bonaventure scored two runs with a single, one with a ground out and one with a sacrifice fly against sophomore
Shaun Okeeffe to increase the lead to 6-0.
The Patriots got on the board in the top of the eighth against St. Bonaventure senior Luke Roggenburk. With one out, graduate student designated hitter
Sam Lavin and sophomore second baseman
Toby Hueber each singled to put runners on first and second. Hull followed with a RBI-double to plate George Mason's first run of the game.
After Hueber scrambled home on a wild pitch, junior center fielder
James Quinn-Irons doubled to left field with Hull scoring from second base to cut the Bonnies lead to 6-3.
The Bonnies added a run in the eighth against Patriots senior
Britt Yount for the 7-3 final score.
The Patriots had won four straight games. The Bonnies snapped an 11-game losing streak.
For the Patriots, Cassedy (2-1) allowed two runs on five hits over 6.0 innings. He struck out five and walked one. Rumberg was charged with three runs on two hits in the seventh. Okeeffe and Yount each gave up one run in 1.0 inning of work.
For the Bonnies, senior Chance Moore (1-1) tossed 6.0 shutout innings and earned the win. Roggenburk surrendered three runs on four hits in 3.0 innings and picked up his third save of the season.
The Patriots on back on the diamond on Tuesday when they travel to face Maryland with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. in College Park, Md.
