Fairfax, Va. -- The Mason women's tennis team hosted Longwood on Friday and Rhode Island on Sunday. The Patriots fell 1-4, and 0-4 respectively.

Tha Lancers opened the scoring by taking the doubles point and then extended their lead to 2-0 when Maitree Rout fell at No. 2 singles. Cenan Liu fell 11-13 in a back and forth battle in a third set tie-breaker. 

Freshman Maya Bayat put Mason on the board winning at #3 singles in a third set tie-breaker, 10-4. The Patriots were locked into battles and the other three positions. Longwood closed out the win at #6 when Brooklyn Siegel lost a tough match,10-12, in another third set tie-breaker.

The Patriots had to regroup to take on Atlantic 10 power Rhode Island on Sunday. The Rams grabbed wins at #1 and #3 doubles to take the lead.

Rhode Island went up 3-0 when Lauren Splett (#6) and Maitree Rout (#2) lost in straight sets. Mason continued to fight and eventually lost the fourth and final point when Noelle Talarek lost at #5 singles.

Cenan Liu, Mary Young and Maya Bayat were in second sets of their matches when the overall match was decided.

"I really liked our energy and our fight today," commented Coach Curtis following the match. The Rams are one of the top teams in the A-10 and we made them earn the win today. I am very proud of the progress of this young team."

The Patriots will host the Tigers of Towson on Wednesday with a 3 pm start time.
