HIGH POINT, N.C. – The George Mason University rowing team opened its 2025 spring season with a dual race Saturday, hosted by High Point University.
"Our first race of the year provided a valuable early experience for us," head coach
Joseph Richards said. "Every time we go out and race, we learn a lot about what we need to work on. I appreciate High Point hosting us and giving us an environment to learn."
George Mason raced four boats at the event, led by a strong performance from the Patriot Varsity 8+ boat. That crew finished in 7:15.90.
The Second Varsity 8+ finished in 8:06.90, while the Varsity 4+ posted a time of 9:08.40. Wrapping up the Patriot competition, the Second Varsity 4+ finished in 9:40.90
"From here, it's all about us getting back to work this week focusing on what we saw out there today," Richards added. "I think our crews performed up to the level we've been practicing at, so I looking forward to continuing to elevate the level of work we're executing in practice."
The Patriots are back in action next Sunday (March 23) when George Mason hosts the annual Georges Cup at Sandy Run Regional Park.
