PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team travels to Philadelphia for a Saturday midday matchup with the Saint Joseph Hawks. First draw between the Patriots and Hawks is set for 12 p.m.

George Mason and Saint Joseph's are 10-8 historically. Last year, the Green & Gold fell to the Hawks, 9-21, in their final regular season game.

Last season, the Patriots went 10-8, 4-6 in A-10 play, which was the programs best season since 2019, and the best season under head coach Kara Mupo. It was also the Patriots' first appearance in the Atlantic 10 tournament since 2019.

PATRIOT POINTS
  • The Patriots are led by Daniella Jimenez in scoring with 28 goals and 5 assists, with a 46.7% shooting accuracy
  • Dahlia Trippel and Kate Anders are a close on Jimenez's tail with 27 and 21 goals, respectively
  • The Green & Gold have had two A-10 Weekly Award winners this season: Catherine Pollard was named Rookie of the week for the week of Feb. 10 and Kaitlyn Bestick was named Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 24.
  • George Mason was picked 7th in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll
  • The Patriots have lost 51% of last year's scoring, including A-10 First Team All-Conference awardee Shannon Tuozzo (61 goals)
  • Returning for the Green & Gold includes 2024 All-Rookie Team Daniella Jimenez and last year's second-most goal scorer Dahila Trippel (35 goals)
  • The Patriots added nine newcomers in the off season

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team holds a 3-6 overall record but has shown promise in conference play with a 2-0 start. Offensively, they average 10.22 goals per game, led by Alexa Capozzoli (12 goals, 26 assists) as the primary playmaker and Maddie Yoder (22 goals) as the top scorer. The team has a balanced attack, with Sarah Groark (19 goals) and Kate Fuhrman (9 goals, 8 assists) contributing as well. However, offensive efficiency remains inconsistent, particularly on free-position shots, where they convert just 34.2% compared to opponents' 46.2%. Their defense has struggled, allowing 12.67 goals per game, with goalie Jorden Concordia posting a 39.7% save percentage. Despite this, they have been competitive in draw controls (109) and ground balls (118), helping maintain possession in key moments.

Defensively, Saint Joseph's has had trouble in early-game situations, allowing 28 first-quarter goals—more than any other period. Their 56 caused turnovers and 86.7% clearing efficiency indicate they can disrupt opposing offenses, but overall defensive consistency is lacking. Offensively, they tend to improve in the second half, scoring 53 of their 92 goals in the third and fourth quarters. For opponents looking to exploit weaknesses, pressuring their attack early and capitalizing on transition opportunities could be key. Conversely, Saint Joseph's must focus on limiting turnovers (121) and improving free-position efficiency to sustain offensive momentum. If they continue their strong conference play and tighten up defensively, they could build on their early A-10 success.
