FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team hosts Howard on March 11^th for a single game at 3:00 p.m. To celebrate Taco Tuesday, there will be a Sodexo food truck. The Patriots then travel to Baltimore County, Maryland, to play UMBC at 6:00 p.m. on March 12^th.
 
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS
The Patriots just played in their last tournament of the season at home in Fairfax, Virginia. Through the weekend, George Mason went 1-4 against Ohio University and Longwood University.
 
On day one of the games, the Patriots dropped their morning game against Ohio 9-0. The Bobcats outhit the Patriots 8-4. Elyssa DeRosa, Maddy Johnson, Emily Lampela, and Kamryn Inman recorded a hit. In their afternoon game, the Patriots lost to Longwood 3-2. DeRosa recorded two hits this game and Jessica Chan and Kaitlyn Bronowicz recorded one hit. DeRosa and Bronowiccz each recorded an RBI.
 
On day two of the tournament, George Mason dropped another game against Ohio 2-1. Logan Pickford, and Madi Sobota recorded a hit. Maya McGowan recorded a hit and RBI. The Patriots pulled away with a win in their last game of the weekend against Longwood. Pickford hit a two-run home run, and Sobota, Inman, and Bronowicz recorded a hit.
 
 
TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS

• Logan Pickford hit a home run (3 hits, 1 run, 3 RBIs)
• Elyssa DeRosa (3 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI)
• Kaitlyn Bronowicz (2 hits, 1 run, 2 RBI)
• Abbey Lane got her second save of the season against Longwood on March 9th
• Harlowe Nigh received a win against Longwood on March 9^th (2-3)

 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
 
Howard University
2025 record: 6-12, 0-0 MEAC
This season, Howard sits at 6-12 overall. They just played in the Outrigger Invitational where they went 2-4 overall against Hawaii, Washington, and Jackson State.
 
Angel Riggins is leading the Bison in batting average (.340), she has 17 hits, eight runs, and six RBIs. Sydney Fletcher is second on the team in batting average (.273), she has 12 hits, five runs, and eight RBIs. Lauryn Jones is ranked third on the team with a .257 batting average. She has nine hits, five runs, and one RBI.
 
The Patriots and Lancers last met in March of 2016 where George Mason pulled away with a monster win, 21-1.
 
 
UMBC
2025 record: 3-14, 0-0 AEC
Currently, UMBC is 3-14. They last played in the UMBC Round Robin tournament hosted at their home field in Maryland. The Retrievers went 1-3 through the weekend and played Holy Cross, Rhode Island, and FDU.
 
Haley Luginbill is leading the team with her batting average (.365), she has 19 hits, eight runs, and 15 RBIs. Emily Riggs is second on the team with a .283 average. She has 13 hits, seven runs, and 11 RBIs. Ella is ranked third on the team with a .260 batting average. She has 13 hits, four runs, and 13 RBIs.
 
The last time the Patriots and Retrievers met was in February of 2024. George Mason was able to secure the win 1-0.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Patriots start conference play this weekend, March 15^th-16^th, at the George Mason Softball Complex. They will play Rhode Island in a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. They will finish the weekend on Sunday against Rhode Island, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
