Box Score RADFORD, Va. – The George Mason lacrosse team beat the Radford Highlanders 16-11 on Sunday afternoon for their first win of the season.
The Patriots finished with three hat tricks from
Dahlia Trippel,
Kate Anders, and
Peyton Farley, as well and won the draw control battle and out-shot the Highlanders 43-27.
The Patriots started off with a goal from
Peyton Farley just 89 seconds into the match off a free position attempt, but the Highlanders answered with three straight goals, putting the Patriots in a 3-1 hole. That didn't discourage George Mason. A goal from
Dahlia Trippel with less than a minute left in the quarter helped close the lead to one headed into the second quarter.
The Green & Gold dominated the second quarter, scoring four goal and holding Radford scoreless. Four different Patriots scored in the second quarter: Farley and Trippel both added their second, and
Kate Anders and Gisele Torain scored their first of the day. Goalie
Regan Bestick had four saves on four shots on goal in the second quarter to help hold the Highlanders at 3. The two teams entered the half with the Patriots leading, 6-3.
The second half was all Mason. 10 goals from the Patriots dominated the half. With two goals from
Kaitlyn Bestick, two from
Daniella Jimenez, and a second and third goal from Anders and Farley, respectively, the Patriots controlled the third quarter. The Highlanders made a push in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Patriots 6-4, but the Patriots had built enough of a lead that it didn't matter. Four more goals, including the first for freshman Camryn Meyers, was enough to secure the victory - the first for the Patriots this season.
