Softball Falls To Longwood And Louisiana In Final Day Of Louisiana Classic

LOUISIANA, La. – The George Mason softball team dropped both games on Saturday to finish up the last day at the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, La. The Patriots dropped their first game against Longwood 5-7 and later lost to Louisiana Lafayette 9-1.

The Patriots were the designated home team in their first game of the day, with Kylie Wilkerson starting on the mound (3.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER). The Lancers earned an early run in the first inning with a hit from Maggie Hiatt. The Patriots responded in the bottom of the first, putting up two runs of their own off a double from Elyssa DeRosa scoring Emily Lampela and Tess Altevers Harris.

George Mason scored two more runs in the second inning off a double from Maddy Johnson, scoring Charlotte Montgomery, and a single from Altevers Harris scoring Johnson.

The Lancers scored their last three runs of the game in the top of the third inning to take the lead 7-4. The rest of the game was quiet from both teams until the Patriots scored one more run in the sixth inning.

Harlowe Nigh stepped into the pitcher's circle (3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER) today, and so did freshman Abbey Lane (0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER)

In the second game of the day, the Patriots started Jordan Tallman (0.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER) in the circle. Louisiana came out hot and scored six runs in the first inning off five hits and one error. The Patriots put one run on the board in the top of the second off two hits.
The Patriots scored their only run of the game off a triple from Tess Altevers Harris, scoring Madi Sobota
Jordan Anderson (4.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER) and Haleigh Dellow (0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER) both saw the mound in this game

The Patriots are on the road next weekend at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. They will play five games through the weekend, starting on February 14th, at 1:30 p.m., against Princeton. Other opponents include Drexel and UNC.
