LOUISIANA, La. – The George Mason softball team split their first two games of the 2025 season on Friday at the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, La. The Patriots were shut out by Longwood 4-3 in Game one in extra innings and later beat Seton Hall 7-2.
PATRIOT HIGHLIGHTS
GEORGE MASON 4, LONGWOOD 3 (8 INNINGS)
The Patriots were the designated visiting team in the first game of the season, and senior pitcher
Jordan Tallman (7.0 IP, 7 H, 4R, 2 ER) took to the circle. Longwood scored early in the first inning off an RBI groundout by Maryanna Guy to score Avery Drake from third. The Patriots were scoreless through the first two innings, while the Lancers were able to earn another run in the bottom of the second inning off a single up the middle to score Mary Zepeda.
The Patriots got things going in the top of the fourth inning when
Maya McGowan singled to right field, scoring
Emily Lampela and getting the Patriots on the board 1-3. George Mason kept up the energy the rest of the inning with
Logan Pickford getting a single,
Kaylee Stinnett flying out to left field to score
Emma Salzman (pinch ran for McGowan), and
Charlotte Montgomery getting a single up the middle to score Pickford to tie the game 3-3.
The game went into extra innings, with Longwood getting two people on base off errors by the Patriots. The Lancers eventually scored the game-winning run off a hit by Maggie Hiatt.
GEORGE MASON 7, SETON HALL 2
In the second game of the afternoon, the Patriots had
Abbey Lane in the pitcher's circle (7.0 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER) for her first start of the season. George Mason came out hot this game and scored two runs in the first and third innings. They earned three more in the fourth before Seton Hall finally got their only two runs on the board in the sixth inning.

The Patriots have two more games lined up for Saturday's installment of the Louisiana Classic. They will first play Longwood again at 1:00 p.m. Then the Patriots play at 6:00 p.m. for their second game against host Louisiana Lafayette.
