FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's lacrosse delivered a statement win on Wednesday, overpowering Longwood in an 18-7 rout to improve to 4-2 on the season. From the opening draw, the Patriots (4-2) controlled every aspect of the game, setting the tone early with an explosive first half and never allowing the Lancers (0-3) a chance to recover.
Daniella Jimenez led the charge with four goals, while Dahlia Trippel and Kate Anders each added a hat trick to fuel the offensive outburst. Riley Ellis, Lauren Distad, and Kaitlyn Bestick each contributed two goals to the scoring column as well.
The first quarter was a complete showcase of George Mason's offensive firepower, as the Patriots stormed out to an 8-0 lead. Riley Ellis opened the scoring, and from there, the goals poured in. Daniella Jimenez, Dahlia Trippel, and Kaitlyn Bestick each found the net in a relentless attack that left Longwood scrambling. The defense was equally dominant, shutting down any Lancer possession and forcing multiple turnovers.
The second quarter was more of the same, as George Mason extended its lead with six more goals to take a commanding 14-0 advantage into halftime. The Patriots' precision passing and efficient shooting were on full display, with Brynn Belmont, Trippel, and Jimenez continuing to pour it on. Meanwhile, Longwood was completely stifled, managing only three total shots in the first half as Mason's defense swarmed at every opportunity.
Longwood finally managed to get on the scoreboard in the third quarter, but by then, the outcome was all but decided. Madison Rogers capitalized on a man-up opportunity for the Lancers' first goal, but George Mason's defense remained disciplined, limiting Longwood's offensive opportunities. Despite being held scoreless in the third, the Patriots' early dominance ensured there was never a real threat of a comeback.
Mason put the game away in the fourth, responding to Longwood's minor resurgence with four more goals. Kate Anders scored twice in the quarter, while Lauren Distad added another to cap off a stellar performance. Even as the Lancers pushed to close the gap late, the Patriots' depth and discipline kept them comfortably ahead, securing their fourth victory of the season in emphatic fashion.
