The Mason women's tennis team split a pair of matches on the road this weekend. On Friday the Patriots traveled an hour south to defeat Mary Washington 6-1 and then traveled an hour northwest to lose at the Naval Academy.

Against Mary Washington the Patriots opened the match by winning the doubles point as Mary Young and Brooklyn Siegel won 6-4 at #2 doubles, while Maya Bayat and Laksya Motam came back from 2-5 down to win 7-5 at #3 doubles.

In singles action senior Captain Lauren Splett put Mason up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #4. Brooklyn Siegel made it 3-0 with a win at #5 while Lakshya Motam (#6) secured the win making it 4-0. 

The Eagles locked in and made the top three positions a battle with the Patriots taking two of the three. Maya Bayat won 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 at the #2 position and Noelle Talarek won 4-6, 6-1, 10- at #3. At the #1 line Cenan Liu fought hard but fell the Addison Felts in two very tight sets.

After a short turn around the Patriots were back on opponents courts taking on a tough Navy team. Mason forced the top two doubles teams to tiebreakers but fell the the Midshipmen in both narrowly losing the doubles point.

With momentum from doubles, Navy was able to sweep the singles matches to earn the victory over the visiting Patriots.

"These were our first back-to-back day matches of the spring season," said Head Coach Steve Curtis. "I am proud of how this young team handled the short turn around and was able to split two tough matches. We will take what we learned and continue working and improving. We are not yet where we want to be but I can definitely see the difference from our first match four weeks ago."

The Patriots will play their first outdoor match of the season as there host A=10 power Fordham, next weekend at 2pm on Saturday at the Mason outdoor courts.
