FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason dropped both games against the visiting Saint Francis Red Flash on the first day of the Patriots home opener. The Patriots lost the first game 3-1 and later dropped the second game 4-3.

GEORGE MASON 1, SAINT FRANCIS 3
Senior pitcher
Jordan Tallman (1-3) started on the mound today for the Patriots. She pitched five innings and had four hits, two runs, and two errors. She struck six batters out and only walked two.
In the first inning, both teams remained scoreless. Saint Francis tried to get things going in the second, hitting a single from A. Smith to third base, but the Patriots got out of the inning.
Kamryn Inman was in scoring position after being walked, then stealing second, but was left on base.
In the bottom of the fourth inning,
Madi Sobota reached third on a fielding error by the right fielder.
Emily Lampela grounded out to the pitcher but scored Sobota to get a run on the board for the Patriots, 1-0.
Saint Francis' A. Smith doubled to left center in the top of the fifth inning to get in scoring position, and Z. Nussbaum walked to have runners on first and second. A. Cipalla stepped up and hit a triple to center field, scoring two runs and giving the Red Flash the lead, 2-1
George Mason's
Tess Altevers Harris got the only hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth, a single up the middle, and
Charlotte Montgomery walked, but both runners were left on base.
Harlowe Nigh came in to pitch in the top of the sixth inning. She pitched two innings and had three hits, one run, and one error.
Saint Francis scored one more run in the top of the seventh off a single up the left side, a sacrifice bunt to advance the runner, and a double from S. Nash to get the run in.

In the Patriots' second game, freshman
Abbey Lane (1-2) started in the circle.
Both teams had one hit in the first inning but left people on base.
Saint Francis got hot early in top of the second with a home run by A. Smith to put the Red Flash up 1-0. Then a single to left center, single to third base, and single to right field scored one more run.
Junior
Logan Pickford got things going for the Patriots in the bottom of the third with a home run to left center field to put George Mason on the board, 1-2.
In the top of the fourth, Z Nussbaum walked, and S. Nash hit a triple and scored on a throwing error by the right fielder to get two more runs on the board.
The Patriots responded with a single from
Maya McGowan and
Jasmine Mack. Then
Kamryn Inman laid down a sacrifice bunt to move runners in scoring position.
Tess Altevers Harris hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring one run for the Patriots, 2-4.
Logan Pickford hit a single to left field and stole second before advancing to third on a ground out from
Emma Salzman.
Elyssa DeRosa grounded out to third but got Pickford to score to give the Patriots one more run, 3-4.
Both teams went scoreless through the last two innings and the Red Flash pulled away with another win.

The Patriots are back on the field tomorrow (February 23
rd) for a doubleheader against Niagara University. First pitch is 12:00 p.m. and the softball team will be hosting a canned food drive with Brite Path Food Pantry.
