HAMPTON, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming teams combined to set four new team records and one Atlantic 10 Conference record in the 800-yard freestyle relay during the first day of competition at the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championships at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the men's team set a new program and conference record with a time of 6:24.73. The Patriots' record-breaking performance ranks third among the fastest times in A-10 800-yard freestyle relay history. The George Mason women's team also established a new team record in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:17.67. Â
Day one is the shortest day of competition, with the men's one-meter diving event and both the women's and men's 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay.
On the men's side, George Mason has the top spot after day one (74) through five events, with George Washington second (72) and Davidson third (64). St. Bonaventure is fourth (58), followed by La Salle (54), Saint Louis (50), Massachusetts (50) and Fordham (50).
The Patriots won the 800-yard freestyle relay with both a conference and team record time (6:24.73), with the team of junior
Tate Anderson, sophomore
Alex Crown and
Cody Scifres, and senior
Zane Roberts winning the event by nearly two seconds. Anderson set a team record with his time leading off the relay.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the group of graduate student
Kyle Johnson, seniors
Tyler Lentine and
Zane Roberts along with sophomore
Ian Rodgers touched the wall second and also set a team record (1:26.43).
On the women's side, George Washington has the lead (107), with Richmond second (83) and Davidson third (74). Duquesne is fourth (73), followed by Massachusetts (70), Fordham (67), La Salle (66), St. Bonaventure (59), George Mason (52), Rhode Island (38) and Saint Louis (26).

Kristen Ivey placing fourth in the event. Tyler set a set a team record with her time leading off the relay.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of seniors
Anka Whelan,
Shannon Judge and DeJong along with junior
Peyton Brehmer placed eighth (1:42.27).
The Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships continue Thursday, with the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle relay and women's one-meter diving. Preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m.
