The Mason women's tennis team earned their second victory of the year with a 7-0 win over Coppin State last night.
The match, which was held at the Burke Racquet & Swim Club, began with the Patriots sweeping the doubles matches to secure the first point.
Mary Young and
Brooklyn Siegel won 6-2 at #2 doubles while
Cenan Liu and
Lauren Splett won 6-3 at #1 doubles.
After the visitors defaulted the #6 singles position Mason's
Brooklyn Siegel put the home team up 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #4.
The Eagles buckled down and stretched the top three positions to third set tie-breakers, but the Patriots were up to the task taking all three.
Mary Young won 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 at the #1 position to secure the Patriot victory.
Maya Bayat and Maitree Rout both won very tight tie-breakers to make the score 6-0.
Lakshya Motam rounded out the scoring by defeating Alison Azark 8-3 at #5.
"Our team showed a lot of resiliency tonight," said Head Coach Steve Curtis. "We overcame some early adversities and locked in to get the job done. Coppin State is a tough up and coming team that fought very hard. I am very proud of our ability to play under pressure."
The Patriots are on the road next weekend as they travel to Mary Washington on Friday and then to the Naval Academy on Saturday.
