CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The George Mason softball team split first two games of Tar Heel Invitational. The Patriots beat Drexel in five innings, 8-0 and later lost to UNC 10-2

PATRIOT HIGHLIGHTS
GEORGE MASON 8, DREXEL 0
The Patriots were the designated visiting team in their first game of the day, with
Jordan Tallman starting on the mound. The Patriots came out hot and got four early runs on the board in the first inning, with
Emily Lampela hitting a double, scoring two, and
Maya McGowan reaching on an error, scoring another run.
Madi Sobota reached first on a fielder's choice, and
Tess Altevers Harris hit a single, scoring the last run of the inning. (4 runs, 2 hits, 1 error)
The Patriots scored another run in the second inning off two errors made by the Dragons.
In the top of the fifth, George Mason scored their last run of the game off one hit and one error.
The Dragons couldn't get much going offensively, only having three hits the whole game and had four errors on defense.

In the second game of the day, the Patriots started freshman
Abbey Lane (1-1) in the circle. Sanna Thompson came out for UNC and hit a home run to get two early runs on the board.
The Tar Heels had bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning and only scored one run.
Maddy Johnson stepped up and hit her first career home run in the top of the third to get the Patriots on the board.
Madi Sobota followed right behind her in the next inning and hit her first career home run.
The Tar Heels kept the hits going in the bottom of the fourth, they scored six runs off four hits and one error.
Emma Salzman pinched hit for the Patriots and got her first career hit.
Harlow Nigh (1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER) saw the mound in this game.

The Patriots have two more games lined up for Saturday's installment of the Tar Heel Invitational. Their first match up is against Princeton at 9:00 a.m., then the Patriots will play Drexel at 11:30 a.m.
